MS Law requires excavators to notify owners of underground facilities at least 2 and not more than 10 working days (weekends and legal holidays excluded) before digging. Locate request are valid for a period of twenty (20) calendar days from the date and time the locate request is processed or entered into the system by MS 811 Inc. If you will be working past the 20 calendar days you will need to update your ticket at least two (2) and no more than three (3) working days prior to the expiration date.

The tolerance zone is a strip of land 18 inches on either side of the marked facility or the operator's field mark. If digging must occur within this tolerance zone, please use extreme caution and dig with a hand shovel within 18 inches either side of the locate mark or 18 inches plus half the width of the utility.
